Our Story

A Jewel in
the Making

Jewel Model Schools was founded in 1996 with an uncompromising belief that every child, regardless of background, carries within them the seed of greatness. From a modest beginning in Kubwa, Abuja, we set out to build an institution that would refuse to be ordinary.

The name "Jewel" was chosen with purpose. Every student is a precious gem — unique, brilliant, and full of potential. Our role as educators is not to press them into a mould, but to cut and polish until their individual brilliance shines at its fullest.

Nearly three decades on — with multiple campuses, over fifty national and international accolades, and thousands of graduates serving across Nigeria and beyond — we remain as committed to that founding vision as we were on day one.

1996

Founded

Jewel Model Schools opens its doors in Kubwa, Abuja — a bold new vision for private education in the FCT.

2000

First Graduates

Our inaugural WAEC cohort sits their exams, beginning a record of consistently strong academic results.

2005

Expansion

A second campus opens, extending our reach and cementing JMS as a leading institution across Kubwa.

2010

First National Award

JMS students claim their first national award in a literary competition — signalling a creative tradition that would define the school.

2015

Third Campus

Our third campus opens, completing a network that now offers Nursery, Primary, and Secondary education.

2018

International Stage

A JMS student becomes a Finalist at the Korea-Nigeria Poetry Prize — our first appearance on the international literary stage.

2021

Feast of Words Sweep

Students claim 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in both the Spot-Writing and Oral Poetry categories of the Feast of Words national contest.

2023

Double NTAP Win

JMS wins both the Poetry and Prose categories of the Nigeria Teen Authors Prize in the same year — a historic double.

2025

Artist of the Year

A JMS student is crowned SEVHAGE Teen Artist of the Year and wins the BCD-Utulu Prize for Literature.

2026

HIASFEST Champions

JMS claims Overall Winner and Star Prize at HIASFEST 2026 — our most dominant festival performance to date.
